Hyderabad: Telangana state EAGLE Force busted an Assam-based interstate drug trafficking network operating in and around Hyderabad on Thursday. Five accused, including the alleged gang leader Bhaskar Hazarika, were arrested and 24.7 kg of ganja was seized. The gang is accused of supplying contraband worth Rs 1.8 crore within the twin cities and is wanted in connection with ganja-related financial transactions amounting to Rs 48 lakh. The arrests followed six months of surveillance.

“This is a remarkable achievement by our dedicated teams,” said  TG Eagle force Director Sandeep Shandilya said. He said the force had been tracking Hazarika’s movements not only in Telangana but also in Odisha, Assam and other states. During the course of the operation, officials gathered details of several local consumers and peddlers, which will be used for further investigation.
Hazarika, however, proved elusive and difficult to trace. After sustained surveillance and coordinated efforts, the Eagle Force finally tracked down the alleged kingpin and four other members of his gang, a law and order police officer said.
The other accused have been identified as Ashish Kumar, Debasis Naik alias Pinku Naik, Babu Borah and Nirmal Hazarika. Officials said Ashish Kumar, Debasis Naik alias Pinku Naik and Babu Borah are Odisha-based suppliers.
Police said further investigation is under way to identify the remaining members of the network and the local consumers and peddlers linked to it. marijuana racket,
