HYDERABAD: Telangana received the “inclusive enterprise and ecosystem development award” by the ministry of non-renewable energy (MNRE) from Union minister Pralhad Joshi in recognition of its ecosystem driven approach to renewables.

Telangana showcased its wind energy potential at the Global Wind Day 2026 national conference organised by the MNRE on Monday at Goa. Speakers highlighted Telangana’s large untapped wind resources, identified by the national institute of wind energy (NIWE). High wind density zones were mapped across the erstwhile districts of Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy, Medak, Hyderabad and Nizamabad.

Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TGREDCO), with NIWE support, has installed 139 wind monitoring masts across these districts and the private developers have added another 25 masts, creating a substantial wind resource dataset to inform future projects.

Despite the large resource base, Telangana has commissioned only 128.8 MW of wind capacity so far, underscoring scope for accelerated development through transparent, tariff based competitive bidding, pre-cleared land parcels and assured evacuation infrastructure, officials said
