Hyderabad: Applicants booking slots for learner’s licences must now listen to a mandatory road safety audio message before proceeding. “The system will not allow them to move to the next stage unless this step is completed,” said joint transport commissioner (JTC) C. Ramesh.

The audio covers critical safety measures such as wearing helmets and seatbelts, avoiding drunk driving, and responding during accidents. Officials said the feature is designed to instill basic awareness among new drivers.

Officials said Telangana will complete the rollout of the Sarathi portal across all regional transport authority (RTA) offices in the state by Monday. JTC Ramesh said 23 RTAs have already switched to Sarathi. Telangana is the last state in the country to adopt this national-level portal.

The portal, developed by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, provides key transport services to citizens online. Motorists can update or renew their driving licences and request address changes from anywhere, without visiting transport offices. Each service carries a fixed fee.

Sarathi, along with its counterpart Vahan, forms part of the Union government’s e-governance initiative for automating RTA operations. While Sarathi manages driving licence services, Vahan deals with vehicle registrations. Together, the platforms maintain a centralised database for licences, permits, taxation, enforcement, registration certificates, conductor and driving school licences and fee payments.
