Telangana Targets 100 GCCs This Year, Says Sridhar Babu, Urges Industry to Enter Classrooms

Hyderabad:Telangana is aggressively targeting the establishment of 100 global capability centres (GCCs) this year, a move aimed at positioning the state as a hub for high-value innovation and global decision-making. IT & industries minister D. Sridhar Babu announced the ambitious goal at the Future Skills Summit & Awards at T-Works, emphasising that these centres would create vast opportunities in technology, engineering, finance and research sectors.

To sustain this growth and ensure a steady pipeline of employable talent, Sridhar Babu asked the corporate sector and industry to enter the classroom. He urged business leaders to move beyond traditional recruitment and become active partners in education by designing curricula, offering internships and mentoring students through live projects.

“The classroom and the workplace cannot remain two separate worlds, they must become connected,” he stated, stressing that academic institutions must continuously update their programmes based on industry feedback.

Highlighting that a degree is merely the foundation, the minister noted that Telangana produces over two lakh graduates annually, yet industry demands practical skills and adaptability. To bridge this gap, the government is transforming 65 government ITIs into advanced technology centres with support from Tata Sons and promoting the Young India Skills University, where industry leaders like Anand Mahindra are central to curriculum design.

With approximately 20,000 new opportunities emerging in the banking, financial services and insurance sector and digital infrastructure extending to rural areas, the state aims to decentralise economic growth, Sridhar Babu said. He affirmed that the future belongs to those who combine education with innovation, ensuring every student leaves college not just with a degree, but with the skills to create value.
