KARIMNAGAR: A degree student allegedly kidnapped a woman daily wage labourer from Karimnagar and tried to kill her near Nustulapur in Thimmapur mandal after robbing her of ornaments to repay online gaming debts, police said on Saturday.

Police arrested the accused, Damma Dinesh Reddy, a native of Gollapalli and a second-year degree student. Karimnagar Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam produced him before the media and said the accused had lost about ₹4 lakh in online games and had also borrowed money from loan apps.

On July 1, Dinesh allegedly approached the woman at Tower Circle labour adda, promised her work and took her on a motorcycle to Thimmapur. He later took her to the outskirts of Nustulapur, attacked her and robbed her gold and silver ornaments, police said.

Police said Dinesh pushed the woman into an agricultural well to hide the crime. When she held on to a rope to stay afloat, he allegedly cut the rope and fled.

The woman, who knew swimming, managed to hold another rope tied to an agricultural motor pipe. A farmer who went to the spot on Thursday morning heard her cries for help and alerted police and other farmers, who rescued her using ropes and a cot.

Karimnagar Town-III police arrested Dinesh after analysing technical evidence, CCTV footage and call data. Police recovered ₹5,000 cash, two mobile phones and 20 grams of silver rings from him.

Banjara Hills police tracked down and arrested one Nimmagadda Phanindra, accused of a theft of `12 lakh from a city construction firm. Police said they arrested him at a cinema hall on the Bengaluru-Goa highway and brought him to the city.

Police said they were acting on a complaint lodged by manager Bhikshapati of Jain Constructions on Road No. 14, Banjara Hills, where the accused Phanindra, a native of Bapatla, was working as an office assistant for several years. Phanindra allegedly stole the money and fled.

Police analysing CCTV footage found that Phanindra had travelled to Ongole and then to Bengaluru in the bus. He reportedly stayed in star hotels, purchased a high-end phone and a sports bike and paid off debts, and was travelling to Goa in a bus. He alighted at a stop on the highway and was arrested.

A man who allegedly murdered his wife suspecting fidelity has been arrested by Uppal police on Saturday. The accused M. Suresh, staffer at a cab rental agency, following an argument stabbed his wife Jessica, a nurse, late on Friday night at their house in Chilkanagar Adarshnagar and fled.

Suresh was arrested this morning at Chikkadpally and during questioning reportedly confessed to the murder. Suresh a native of Giddalur in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, had married Jessica in 2015. They have a son who had been staying with his grandmother in Boduppal, Balajinagar, and a nine-year-old daughter.

Woman Dies by Suicide in Jawaharnagar; Mother Blames In-Laws

Unable to bear her in-laws’ alleged harassment, Mazzari Rekha, wife of excise constable M. Saikiran, died reportedly by suicide at Balajinagar Shantinagar. The couple had married three years ago and have a son. Police said there was no one at home when the death occurred. Rekha’s in-laws reported finding the body on their return, and called their neighbours who informed the police.

Rekha’s mother alleged that her in-laws were responsible for the death, police said. Jawaharnagar police registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances and began questioning the in-laws.

Cops Involved in Civil Disputes Will Be Dismissed from Service, Warns DGP C.V. Anand

Director-General of Police C.V. on Saturday said police officials who were found to be involved in civil disputes would be dismissed from service. He noted that complaints were being received about the involvement of some officers in civil disputes. “If they do not act responsibly, they will be dismissed,” Anand said.

He was speaking at an online review meeting held with unit officers. He advised them to visit police stations regularly and inspect crime control measures. He instructed the officers to keep a constant vigil on false propaganda on social media.

He said that a programme to connect 112 services with drones would be launched soon and that a digital launch would be held soon. He suggested that digital systems like CCTNS, E-Sakshyam and LattiApp should be used effectively.

Anand directed officers to upload evidence related to FIRs on the e-Sakshyam portal in a timely manner. He said Bhupalapally had achieved 55 percent, Siddipet 39 per cent, and Nalgonda 31 per cent in portal usage,

He praised Kamareddy for its 92.86 per cent and Wanaparthy for its 92 per cent performance in the implementation of e-summons. He announced rewards for policemen who showed excellence in their duties.

Six Arrested in Hyderabad for Illegal Steroid Racket; Supplements Worth ₹6.5 Lakh Seized

The task force and Musheerabad police arrested six persons for allegedly illegally procuring and selling steroid injections and instant muscle growth supplements. Police said they had seized stocks of various types of steroids worth ₹6.5 lakh from their possession.

The accused were identified as online gym trainer Batte Shiva; steroids dealer Mohammed Furqanuddin Faisal; sub-sellers Mohammed Saif, Farzan Khan, Mohd. Yousuf and Sombattini Abhilash. The absconding accused have been identified as Mudid Chouhan of Medhouse Pharma of UP and Rajan Preeth Singh of Punjab.
