Suryapet: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress government in Telangana is committed to ensuring food security, providing housing for the needy, and promoting inclusive growth so that every citizen has the opportunity to live with dignity and progress.

Wearing traditional Lambada tribal headgear, Uttam Kumar Reddy hoisted the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations at the district collector’s office in Suryapet on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, he said the Congress government’s policies are designed to touch the lives of all, from the farmer in the field to the worker in the city, and from women and children to the elderly and the most vulnerable.

He highlighted that Telangana now stands out as the only state in the country providing free fine rice to over 80 per cent of its population through the Public Distribution System (PDS), a step that has ensured nutritional security for over three crore families. To ensure no deserving person is left out, new ration cards are being issued to bring more households into the food security net. Alongside this, free bus travel for women, subsidised cooking gas, and expanded social pensions are helping families meet their daily needs with dignity, he added.

Emphasising the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that investment support under Rythu Bheema, minimum support prices, loan waivers, and crop insurance are all aimed at strengthening the agriculture sector from a farmer-centric perspective. The state government is also committed to completing all pending irrigation projects, following the mantra of creating more ayacut with less expenditure by effectively utilising resources and public funds. Every rupee spent will deliver maximum benefit at the field level, he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy concluded by calling for collective efforts to build a stronger, fairer Telangana, saying, “Let us take pride in what we have achieved and strive together for what we can still accomplish.”
