Hyderabad: In view of the India Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three to four days, the Telangana government has put the state’s irrigation machinery on high alert.

Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy directed all irrigation department officials to remain stationed at their duty locations and maintain full vigilance to prevent any mishaps or damage arising from excessive rain. He announced that leave for all irrigation officials has been cancelled for the next four days.

The minister instructed officials to keep a close watch on all irrigation projects, reservoirs, canals, and tanks across the state. At the first sign of any possible breach or damage, officials must immediately inform their respective district collector, district chief engineer, and the Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation).

Principal Secretary (Irrigation) and Engineer-in-Chief have been asked to closely monitor the situation in all districts. The minister also urged irrigation staff to directly alert him at his mobile number if any alarming situation develops in any irrigation asset or water body in the state.

The precautionary measures come as Telangana braces for intense rainfall, which could potentially impact the state’s water infrastructure.
