HYDERABAD: More than 50,000 parents attended the second mega parent‑teacher meeting across 430 government junior colleges, where academic progress, attendance, exam readiness and recent welfare measures for Intermediate students were reviewed.

Principals placed before parents details of recent spending decisions. According to the department, ₹56.16 crore was sanctioned for college repairs, whitewashing and installation of green boards, while ₹10.25 crore was earmarked for renovation works. Another ₹49.63 crore was approved for construction of toilets, classrooms and buildings in 300 colleges. Maintenance funds are also being released to keep campuses functional and clean.

Student safety and mental health featured prominently in discussions. CCTV cameras and fire safety measures have been installed, while the Tele‑MANAS mental health helpline (14416), trained counsellors and the HELP programme promoting meditation, life skills and emotional resilience have been rolled out. Colleges have also set up name boards and “Walls of Fame” to showcase alumni, while achievers among students and parents are being felicitated to motivate current batches.

Parents conveyed appreciation for the steps taken in government junior colleges and thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the continued focus on education, the department said. Alumni interactions and suggestions from parents were also part of the programme.
