Telangana Man Begs on Abu Dhabi Streets After Job Loss Due to Mental Health Issues

Nizamabad: A heart-rending case of migrant distress has emerged from Abu Dhabi, UAE, involving Maloth Sriram, a tribal worker from Perumalla village in Lingampet mandal of Kamareddy district, who is reportedly living on the streets without food or shelter after allegedly losing mental stability.

Sriram travelled to Abu Dhabi on November 11, 2025, on a cleaner visa to work with World Star Facility Management Services. Within two days of his arrival, he reportedly suffered a mental health episode and went missing from the company’s labour camp in the Musaffah area on November 13. Although he was traced nearly a month later and brought back to the camp, the company management allegedly refused to allow him re-entry, leaving him homeless.

As a result, Sriram is now reportedly begging on the streets for food, without access to shelter, medical care or basic human dignity. Adding to the family’s distress, the company has reportedly registered an ‘absconding’ case against him and is demanding a penalty of 4,500 UAE dirhams (about Rs 1.10 lakh) to process his deportation.

Sriram’s wife, Sunitha, submitted a representation at the ‘CM Pravasi Prajavani’ in Hyderabad, addressed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, seeking urgent humanitarian intervention. Copies of the petition were also submitted to Yellareddy MLA M. Madan Mohan Rao, Zaheerabad MP Suresh Shetkar, and Telangana NRI Advisory Committee vice-chairman Mandha Bheem Reddy.

Following the representation, CM Prajavani in charge and vice-chairman of the State Planning Commission G. Chinna Reddy took cognisance of the issue and conveyed it to the Chief Minister’s secretary V. Sheshadri for necessary action.

Sunitha appealed to the State government, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi to ensure her husband’s immediate repatriation, medical treatment and rehabilitation. She said the family belongs to an extremely poor background and is unable to bear the deportation penalty or travel expenses.
