Telangana Issues Guidelines on Road Safety Funds
District collectors have been directed to activate district road safety committees and ensure that they meet every month.
Hyderabad: The government has issued guidelines for the management and monitoring of road safety funds at the state and district levels to strengthen accident prevention measures.
The guidelines, issued through GO Ms No. 48 dated October 12, in accordance with the Union ministry of road transport and highways' framework, were aimed at promoting scientific methods to reduce road accidents and fatalities.
The funds will be supervised by the State Road Safety Council, chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, with the transport minister as vice-chairman.
District collectors have been directed to activate district road safety committees and ensure that they meet every month.
The committees must appoint dedicated district road safety coordinators and submit comprehensive road safety plans.
The police, health, roads and buildings, and education departments, along with the GHMC, have been instructed to appoint nodal officers to coordinate road safety measures.
The transport minister said bringing the office of the Additional Director General of Police (Road Safety) under the purview of the State Road Safety Council would ensure better coordination among departments.
All accounts relating to the funds at the state and district levels will be subject to mandatory audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
