Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday said that Telangana stood as a model for social revolution, by being the first state to successfully carry out a caste census.

Speaking at the 375th birth anniversary celebrations of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud, held at Ravindra Bharati on Monday, he said that the government had ensured 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies, education, and employment based on the findings of the caste census. The legislation was unanimously passed in the Assembly and sent to the Governor.

This historic step, he said, has triggered nationwide discussion and compelled even the Union government to consider a caste census.

The Deputy Chief Minister called upon every Bahujan in every village to widely publicise this achievement. He urged the people to safeguard and strengthen the people’s government so that future generations of Bahujan children can reap its benefits.

Bhatti said that the government had decided to install a statue of Sardar Papanna in front of the Secretariat as a symbol of his struggle and inspiration. He said that allocating space right opposite the Secretariat for the statue was highly motivational, calling it a foundation for social justice and righteousness.

He added that at a time when Sardar Papanna had nothing, he united all castes and achieved his aspirations, setting an example that society must continue to follow. He also expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Telangana to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for allocating land and approving the installation of the statue.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing reservations for BCs, Bhati accused some political parties of spreading misleading propaganda. He appealed to the people of Telangana to remain united, protect the people’s government, and send a clear message to such forces.
