ADILABAD: The state government is verifying the lists of beneficiaries for Indiramma houses after allegations that ineligible persons were selected. District officials are inspecting the houses of Indiramma beneficiaries and verifying their income, family background and ration card status.

This follows instructions from district collectors to officials to take up field-level verification of the beneficiaries to ensure that only the poorest among the poor get the Indiramma houses. The collectors have received complaints against the selection of ineligible candidates.

Asifabad collector Venkatesh Dhotre two days ago went to the house of a Indiramma beneficiary and cross-checked his details Janakapur SC Colony (Ward No. 1), and another beneficiary in Bajarwadi Colony in Asifabad headquarters.

He told the beneficiaries that they must construct the house within 600 square feet in order to get financial assistance in a phased manner. He said that village secretaries would be held responsible if ineligible candidates get a place on the list of beneficiaries.

The collector promised the people that ineligible candidates would be removed from the list of beneficiaries, though they started construction of the Indiramma houses. The list will be displayed at the gram panchayat offices and locals can raise objections. So far, Indiramma houses have been sanctioned to those having their own land for the construction.
