Telangana HC Rejects ₹50 Lakh Compensation Plea Of Extortion Case Accused
The petitioner sought a declaration that her detention and remand were unconstitutional: Reports
HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has dismissed a writ petition seeking ₹50 lakh compensation filed by an accused in an extortion case involving allegations of trapping wealthy women under the guise of relationships and business investments.
Justice G.M. Mohiuddin was hearing a petition filed by Koduri Meena Kumari, who alleged illegal detention, custodial torture and misuse of official powers by police in connection with cases registered against her and her family members at Jubilee Hills police station and other stations.
The petitioner sought a declaration that her detention and remand were unconstitutional. She also requested a probe by a Special Investigation Team, the CBI or CID against certain police officials, preservation of CCTV footage from police premises, securing of call data records and cell tower locations of the officers concerned, restraint on alleged police harassment, and ₹50 lakh compensation.
After examining the records, the court noted that the remand docket, being a contemporaneous record, showed that the petitioner had stated before the magistrate that no ill-treatment had been meted out to her.
The court held that in view of this statement, and the fact that she was represented by counsel at the time of remand, the allegations raised later in the writ petition could not be sustained, leading to dismissal of the plea.
