Telangana HC Expresses Strong Displeasure for Not Complying With Court Orders
Court sets four-week deadline to comply with its 2019 order on tribal welfare staff.
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has expressed strong displeasure over the failure of officials to implement its 2019 orders, directing the authorities to consider the regularisation of employees in the tribal welfare department from the date they completed five years of service. The court also cautioned that the concerned officers would have to continue appearing before the court if they failed to submit a compliance report within the final four-week deadline.
Justice Tangirala Madhavi Devi was hearing a contempt petition filed by S.K. Yaqoob and 11 other employees, complaining about non-compliance of the court orders for nearly six years, despite repeated requests by the authorities for time extensions.
The judge made it clear that the officials must file a compliance report by the next hearing on 23 November 2026, failing which they would be required to remain present before the court.
The petitioners, working in the tribal welfare department office in Warangal district, had approached the High Court seeking regularisation of their services with effect from the date on which they completed five years of service.
In 2019, the High Court had directed the authorities to examine their requests in accordance with the applicable legal provisions and take an appropriate decision within eight weeks. However, as no decision was taken despite the passage of several years, the employees initiated contempt proceedings in 2021, alleging non-compliance with the court’s directions.
During Monday’s hearing, Sikta Patnaik, special secretary of the finance department, appeared virtually, while Santosh, Officer at the commissioner of the tribal welfare department, appeared in person.
