Telangana Govt Puts Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme on Fast Track; Sets 1-Year Completion Target
CM Revanth Reddy directs focused action as Rs 2,500 crore of special funding is released
Hyderabad: The government said it was committed to completing the Devadula lift irrigation scheme (DLIS) within a year, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directing the irrigation department for focused action on the project. The Chief Minister has assured a special package of Rs 6,000 crore for under-construction irrigation projects, of which Devadula is one. Of this amount, Rs 2,500 crore had already been released.
The government said that it has decided to put the Devadula scheme on a fast track with the objective of completing the long-pending project within the next one year. The Chief Minister has said that special attention should be paid to the project, and that all impediments to its completion removed on priority, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy told reporters after a high-level review of the project.
The meeting was also attended by ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Danasari ‘Seethakka’ Anasuya, Chief Minister's adviser Vem Narender Reddy, member of parliament P. Balram Naik and several MLAs including Kadiam Srihari and other public representatives from the project region along with senior irrigation department officials.
The Devadula scheme is designed to lift about 38 tmc ft of Godavari water and provide irrigation to nearly six lakh acres in Hanamkonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jangaon, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Suryapet, Siddipet, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Mulugu and Jayashankar Bhupalpalli districts.
Tuesday’s meeting also decided that the Devadula project system will be used to ensure maximum possible pumping from the Godavari river with officials directed to use all available pumping facilities so that the maximum quantity of water could be conveyed to the command areas and reservoirs served by the project.
