Telangana DGP Warns of Strict Action Against Character Assassination on Social Media
He further cautioned media outlets and social media handlers against targeting private lives.
Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Shivadhar Reddy issued a stern warning on Wednesday, stating that strict legal action will be taken against those spreading fake news and engaging in character assassination.
The DGP’s statement came in response to recent reports aired by a TV channel and several YouTube channels that allegedly tarnished the reputation and dignity of a senior woman IAS officer.
Speaking on the issue, DGP Shivadhar Reddy said, "We have previously issued warnings regarding excessive zeal and over-enthusiasm on social media. We will not tolerate character assassination carried out under the guise of social media activity."
He further cautioned media outlets and social media handlers against targeting private lives. "Do not publish false reports about individuals or their families. Propagating fake news regarding personal matters is strictly prohibited and will invite severe legal consequences," the DGP added.
