Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA), in a coordinated operation with the Adilabad police, seized 109 unlabelled transparent PET bottles (200 ml), purported to be Oxytocin injections, from Mautho Aravind Kumar.

Aravind kumar illegally stocked injections purported to contain Oxytocin for sale, intended for misuse in cattle. Such misuse involves the administration of oxytocin to dairy animals to artificially increase milk production.

However, this unauthorized use of Oxytocin may have adverse effects on animal health. A. Srilatha, Drugs Inspector, Adilabad, along with K. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders, said Shahnawaz Qasim, DCA Director-General.

The abuse of oxytocin in livestock, particularly its illegal administration to artificially induce milk let-down and increase milk production in dairy animals, constitutes an offence. Unauthorized stocking and sale of ‘Oxytocin Injections’ is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment of up to five years.
