Karimnagar: The district Congress leaders celebrated the passage of the Panchayat Raj Act Amendment Bill, which provides 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in upcoming local body elections. The Bill was unanimously passed in the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Sunday.

District Libraries chairman Sattu Mallesham, along with other Congress leaders and cadres, distributed sweets and burst firecrackers at Indira Chowk in Karimnagar, to mark the occasion.

City Congress president and SUDA chairman Komatireddy Narendar Reddy hailed the legislation as a “historic victory” that fulfils a key promise made in the Congress Kamareddy Declaration. He criticised the BJP and BRS for allegedly attempting to obstruct the Bill earlier, accusing them of denying justice to BCs.

Mallesham urged opposition parties to cooperate with the Congress government on issues concerning BC welfare, warning that history would not forgive them for their attempts to undermine their opportunities.

Several local Congress leaders, including K. Arun Kumar, Samad Nawab, and G. Srinivas Reddy, also joined the celebrations.
