Telangana Cabinet Meeting On Aug 14 To Approve Expansion Of Welfare Scheme, New Land Pooling Policy

HYDERABAD: The Cabinet, scheduled to meet on August 14, and is expected to decide on
expansion of welfare schemes, a new land pooling policy for mobilising resources for infrastructure and development projects, and the proposed special session of the Legislature.
Official sources said the Cabinet was likely to approve the land pooling policy, which is aimed at replacing the forced land acquisition process with a more participatory model.
Under the proposed policy, landowners would receive 60 per cent of fully developed plots in return for pooling their land, while government agencies such as the HMDA and TGICC would retain the remaining 40 per cent. The government intends to use its share for resource mobilisation and execution of infrastructure and development projects.
The Cabinet is also expected to finalise the schedule for convening a one-day special session of the Legislature to pass a resolution seeking reduction in the minimum age for contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections from 25 to 21 years. The resolution is also likely to seek reduction in the
minimum age for contesting Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections from 30 to 25 years.
As Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is expected to undertake a three-week overseas tour covering the UK, the US, China and Germany from August 20 to September 10, the special session is likely to be convened on August 17 or 18.
On the welfare front, the Cabinet is expected to approve sanctioning pensions for another 2.25 lakh beneficiaries. The government is also likely to extend the Gruha Jyothi scheme, under which up to 200 units of electricity are supplied free of cost, to an additional three to four lakh families. Under the Mahalakshmi scheme, another five lakh families are expected to be brought under the subsidised LPG cylinder scheme, under which beneficiaries get a cylinder for an effective price of ₹500.
The government currently provides monthly pensions to around 41 lakh beneficiaries.
The Cabinet is also expected to approve calling for tenders for construction of Indiramma Towers to provide flats for LIG categories in Hyderabad Core Urban Region. The Cabinet is also expected to take key decisions on launching Musi rejuvenation works and Gandhi Sarovar project works.
