Telangana Cabinet Approves Two Private Universities
Panel formed to set up advanced goshalas in state
Hyderabad:The state Cabinet on Thursday approved the establishment of two private universities — Amity University and St Mary's Rehabilitation University — in Hyderabad. The universities, however, the Cabinet insisted, must reserve 50 per cent seats to native students.
The proposed rehabilitation university would be the country’s first in the space, and aims to address the critical national shortage of rehabilitation professionals and deliver comprehensive umbrella rehabilitation services to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), a deeply underserved and neglected segment of society.
With an existing ecosystem that includes a fully operational Medical Rehabilitation Hospital, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Hospital, Special Education School, and state-of-the-art infrastructure for the training of rehabilitation professionals, this initiative is expected to synergise academic excellence with impactful service delivery.
The Cabinet also approved the inclusion of two newly-formed municipalities — Jinnaram and Indresham — in Sangareddy district. With this, 18 village panchayats falling under these two municipalities will be delisted as part of the restructuring process.
Another important decision taken at the Cabinet meeting was the creation of a specialised committee to oversee the establishment and management of advanced goshalas (cow shelters) in the state. The committee, led by the Chief Secretary and comprising three senior officials, has been tasked with submitting a report before the next cabinet meeting.
During the meeting, the Cabinet was presented with a PowerPoint presentation prepared by the animal husbandry department, which outlined the proposed designs for new goshalas.
The state has 306 goshalas and the Cabinet has approved the construction of modern facilities in locations such as Yenkapally of Moinabad mandal in Rangareddy district, Veterinary University, Rajendranagar, and in the temple towns of Vemulawada and Yadagirigutta. In addition, a comprehensive policy document for the registration and management of existing goshalas will be developed.
To expedite ongoing irrigation projects, the cabinet also decided to accelerate the land acquisition process, ensuring smoother and faster execution of pending projects across the state.
