NALGONDA: Contrary to the advisory of the state government, former minister and BRS MLA Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy on Sunday asked the farmers to take up cultivation of paddy in the ayacut of the Nagarjuna Sagar left canal, as the BRS is going to take up intensified agitation and continue it until release of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) for irrigation purposes.
Speaking at a media conference held in the district BRS office at Nalgonda, he said 200 TMC of water of Nagarjuna Sagar of Telangana in Krishna water was available in the Srishaliam and Nagarjuna Sagar Projects. But the Congress government did not release water to the NS left canal, which caused a draught-like situation in the Ayacut.
He ticked off the Congress government for not keeping silence when the Andhra Pradesh government diverted the Krishna River water to the Veligonda project. It was not even writing a letter to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on illegal diversion of Krishna River water by the AP government that affects the interests of Telangana, he added.
He said the BRS working president, K. Taraka Rama Rao, would take up padayatra from Kodad to Haliya as announced by him and mount pressure on the Congress government for the release of water to the NS left canal. BRS MLC M C Koti Reddy and former Nalgonda MLA Kancherla Bhupal Reddy were also present.
