Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, who took charge last week, said newcomers into the party, even if they were senior leaders, would be “shown the door” if they violated the party line.

In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Ramachander Rao vowed to take stringent action if anyone deviated from the party line as he set about strengthening the party from the grassroots and build on its growing acceptance to emerge as a winner in the 2028 Assembly elections.

When a party is emerging from a cadre-based party to a mass-based party, with leaders coming from other parties, “some issues would crop up,” Ramchander Rao told Deccan Chronicle. He would address them by conducting continuous training classes for the newcomers.

Senior newcomers violating the party line would not be encouraged with positions and would be “shown the door,” he said. He said he had a zero tolerance for groupism and announced plans for ideological training for all leaders to maintain party discipline and values.

Asked about the inordinate delay in picking a new state president, and whether the strong internal fight was the reason of it, Ramchander Rao pointed to the structured organisational process, including membership drives and committee formations. He dismissed as “media speculation”, reports of internal conflicts.

To a question on whether the state BJP had failed to sustain momentum after winning eight Lok Sabha seats, Ramchander Rao pointed out that the party had prioritised internal democracy through the ‘Sanghatan Parv’ membership campaign while engaging with farmers, students, and demolition of poor houses by HYDRAA.

Looking ahead, Ramchander Rao said he aimed to make the BJP a strong alternative by 2028 through the ‘Sashaktha Booth’ initiative, focusing on booth-level organisation and wider youth and women participation.

He also called for a CBI probe into corruption allegations like the Kaleshwaram scam and said the matter was slowed by obstruction by the Congress and the BRS. The new Telangana BJP chief reaffirmed the party’s commitment to social equality and highlighted the achievements of the Modi government as key to the party’s growth.
