Telangana Must be Benchmark for Cyber Safety: Sridhar Babu

Sridhar Babu noted that cybercriminals were constantly adopting new methods, creating complex challenges for enforcement agencies. He stressed the need to move beyond traditional policing and adopt smart, technology-enabled systems for digital safety

Hyderabad: Telangana must strive to become India’s benchmark for predictive, technology-driven cyber safety, IT minister D Sridhar Babu said on Thursday, opening the SCSC Conclave 2025 with a call for stronger intelligence-led policing and statewide digital resilience. “Telangana must lead India in predictive, technology-driven cyber safety,” he said, adding that the state’s cyber roadmap was anchored in the Telangana Rising Vision-2047 framework.

The conclave, organised by the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) in collaboration with Cyberabad police, was themed ‘Securing Our Future: Collaboration, Innovation & Resilience’. It brought together senior government leaders, police officers, corporate representatives and civil society organisations.
Shikha Goel, TGCSB Director General (DG), highlighted the scale of the global crisis, noting that cybercrime was projected to reach $11.9 trillion by 2026. Telangana recorded 93,000 cyber complaints with losses over `1,900 crore, though she underlined a significant achievement: “TGCSB strengthened Telangana’s cyber safety with an AI-driven 24×7 security operations (SOC) and improved refund success to 49 per cent.” She attributed 96 per cent of breaches to human error and emphasised the state’s focus on training, awareness and student cyber clubs.
ADGP Charu Sinha stressed the need for stronger frameworks for women’s safety and more coordinated investigative capacity, while Cyberabad police commissioner Avinash Mohanty said, “SCSC is India’s strongest PPP in safety,” citing initiatives across women’s safety, cyber awareness and traffic management.
HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath said the agency recovered `6,000 crore worth of assets from encroached areas and warned that unchecked violations could result in Hyderabad losing most lakes within two decades. He said proactive measures are underway through boundary marking, notices and clearing nalas.
Joint commissioner (traffic) Dr Gajarao Bhupal, said smart mobility and unified action were vital for urban safety,” while US Consul General Laura Williams noted that cybercrimes in Telangana had declined due to “proactive collaboration.” She said services like the SHE Shuttle improved workplace safety for women.
The conclave hosted panel discussions on cybersecurity, smart mobility, healthcare safety, disaster management and physical security, reflecting SCSC’s multi-sectoral approach to urban safety.
