Godavari Swells in Mulugu: 1,000 Acres of Chilli Crops Submerged, NH-163 Traffic Disrupted

Mulugu: Rising floodwaters from upstream states have caused the Godavari to swell, inundating several areas of Vajedu mandal in Mulugu district.
Chilli plantations spread over nearly 20 km have been submerged, leaving farmers distressed.

Locals said they had never witnessed such flooding in September.
Traffic on National Highway 163 was disrupted due to the rising Godavari.
With the Chikupalli stream bridge still awaiting repairs, the situation has worsened.
For the past two days, people from nearby villages have been relying on boats for essential travel.
Some boat operators have joined two boats together, forcing people to travel through the strong currents with apprehension.
Meanwhile, the Godavari continued to flow freely at the Medigadda Lakshmi Barrage in the Mahadevpur mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.
The water level at the barrage stood at 90.40 metres at 6 am on Sunday.
All 85 gates were kept open, with inflows and outflows recorded at 1,01,530 cusecs.
At Ramannagudem in Mulugu district, the Godavari water level reached 73.10 metres at 3 pm on Sunday.
With the first warning level at 73.33 metres, officials alerted people living in low-lying areas.
Residents have been facing difficulties while travelling out for essential supplies.
However, the flood situation is gradually easing.
