Suspended CISF Constable-Turned Drug Smuggler Arrested, Police Seize 1.58 Kg Ganja Worth ₹79 L

A suspended CISF constable-turned drug smuggler was arrested in a combined operation by Jubilee Hills and SR Nagar police task force. Police recovered 1.58 kilograms of Ganja and other properties worth Rs 79 lakh from him.

The accused, Panagudu Shiva Krishna, 39, from ASR district under suspension since September 2025, has been residing in Kerala. He was arrested while transporting the contraband near Nature Cure hospital in SR Nagar, said DCP task force Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad.
Krishna joined CISF in 2009 and later went on deputation to national disaster response force. He revealed that when his vehicle was intercepted at police check posts, he displayed his CISF ID to evade inspection by law enforcement authorities, Gaikwad said.
Krishna used to procure large quantities of drugs from cultivators in Odisha and supplied them to interstate peddlers in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra states, said Gaikwad.
The accused was previously arrested by Dammapet police in 2025 and was lodged in Khammam jail and subsequently suspended from service. He continued his involvement in drug trafficking even after being released from jail, DCP added.

Saifabad police reunite missing child with family in swift one-hour operation

The Saifabad police rescued an eight-year-old missing girl at the Lakdikapul Metro Rail Station within an hour, safely reuniting her with her family.
According to A. Seethaiah, SHO, Saifabad police station, constable K. Vinay Kumar was on his official duties on Tuesday and noticed a young girl wandering alone in a distressed state at Lakdikapul Metro Rail Station at 8 pm.
Recognising that the child was lost, the constable brought her to the police station. After gentle counselling and inquiry by the police personnel, the child identified herself and as a resident of Mangar Basti, Habeebnagar, Seethaiah said. Police contacted her father and safely handed over the child to her family.

Caretaker held for attacking elderly couple, robbery

A home caretaker who brutally attacked a senior citizen and his wife, confined them and fled with their property, was arrested by Towlichowki police on Wednesday.

The accused, Punna Kumarswamy, had been employed to look after Dr Anand Swaroop Saxena, 79, and his wife Asha Saxena, 77, at their residence in Adityanagar. On May 31 around 4 pm, while the couple were asleep, Kumarswamy allegedly attempted to murder Asha. He wrapped a bed sheet around her face, and when she resisted and raised an alarm, he pushed Anand to the ground and assaulted Asha with fists on her chest and spine. He then snatched two mobile phones, four gold bangles and a mangalsutra before fleeing, Syed Fiaz, ACP Towlichowki, said.

Police said Kumarswamy had been appointed through Shyam Home Care Services. Investigation revealed he had earlier been arrested in 2017 in Srikakulam for harassing his wife Radhamma and was convicted for five years.

Acting on specific information, police raided Pot Market in Secunderabad and arrested him while he was attempting to dispose of the stolen property. He had also been arrested previously in theft and robbery cases by Shadnagar, Kothur and Filmnagar police. Kumarswamy has now been produced before court for judicial remand, ACP added.

BTech student drowns in quarry

A 23-year-old BTech third-year student drowned in a quarry near Medchal on Tuesday evening after venturing into deeper waters while swimming with friends following a cricket match.

According to Medchal police, the deceased was identified as Upender, a resident of Pudur under the same jurisdiction, while the quarry is located some distance from his residence. Upender, along with a group of friends, had gathered near the quarry on Tuesday evening to play cricket. After completing the game, the group reportedly decided to take a swim in the quarry.

Police said Upender knew how to swim but drowned after moving into a deeper section of the water body. His friends raised an alarm after noticing that he had not resurfaced. Upon receiving information, local police and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The body was fished out by evening and shifted for postmortem examination.

Police said the short postmortem opinion confirmed drowning as the cause of death. After the procedure, the body was handed over to the family.

A case was registered at Medchal police station and further investigation is underway. Police have cautioned the public against entering abandoned quarries and deep water bodies, especially during monsoon conditions, due to the risk of sudden depth variations.

Fake message doing rounds: Sajjanar

City police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Wednesday said that a message on social media doing rounds that WhatsApp calls are being recorded, which is completely false.

“It was a false propaganda by some mischief mongers to terrorise people. There was no truth in the news that WhatsApp calls are being recorded,” Sajjanar, said.

"Earlier also, warnings were issued in this regard. But, some are sharing it intentionally. As responsible citizens do not believe or share such fake news. Strict legal action will be taken against those spreading false news, he said, while posting the same on his X.

Thai woman alleges fraud by Hyderabadi

Videos circulating on social media show a Thai national woman alleging that she was cheated by a city-based man of ₹10 lakh under the pretext of a business investment in Hyderabad.

In the video, the 55-year-old woman said: “I am a single mother. A man named Mahesh Kukatpally came in contact with me through social media, posing as a top-class businessman. He collected ₹10 lakh from me over the past few months and is now refusing to return the money, instead abusing me. During video chats he removed his clothes, creating an embarrassing situation. I have evidence of money transactions and abusive videos. I request Hyderabad police to take necessary action against Mahesh, do justice to me and prevent him from repeating the same with other victims.”

She further stated that she had posted strong evidence of bank transactions on her social media account. “Being a single mother, I cannot come to Hyderabad. Mahesh has cheated me by collecting all my savings. I can hardly afford to buy tickets. The authorities should look into this,” she urged.

Mahesh, however, is cited as saying: “I do not know the Thai woman personally. She contacted me through social media for help.”

Based on the videos, social media users commented that such frauds not only financially harm innocent people but also tarnish India’s trust and reputation internationally. Another user said cybercrimes are raising serious concerns about accountability in society, demanding that the victim get proper justice and strict action be taken against the accused as per law.

So far, no formal complaint has been received. The cybercrime social media unit has collected the posts for verification, sources disclosed on Wednesday.

Septuagenarian booked for molesting minor

Kushaiguda police registered a case against a 75‑year‑old man for molesting a 14‑year‑old girl.

According to police, the accused was identified as M. Lingam, who runs an ironing shop in the locality. The incident came to light after the victim’s parents lodged a formal complaint. The complainant stated that their daughter stepped out to buy groceries from a nearby shop. While returning, Lingam lured her inside his ironing shop, pulled down the front shutter and molested her.

Alert neighbours, who witnessed the elderly man closing the shutter after the girl went inside, immediately informed her parents. When questioned, the traumatised victim narrated her ordeal and revealed that the accused had behaved inappropriately with her the previous week as well.

Based on the complaint, Kushaiguda police registered a case under relevant sections of law, including the Pocso Act. A thorough investigation is underway.

Man murdered

A 30-year-old daily wage worker, Sahid, was brutally murdered near a popular tea café under the limits of the Borabanda police station on Wednesday.

On receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. The area was cordoned off, while fingerprint experts and CLUES teams inspected the crime scene and collected evidence.

According to police, unidentified assailants stabbed Sahid to death. The motive behind the murder is yet to be established, and investigators are probing all possible angles while making efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

The victim’s body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
