Sunstroke Risk Rising as 13 Telangana Districts Brace for Heatwave

Experts caution the vulnerable populations.

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a potential heatwave with severe conditions expected in 13 Telangana districts. According to disaster management data from the past 11 years, these districts typically experience heatwaves for an average of 21-40 days annually.

Experts caution that vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant women, new mothers, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health issues, are at high risk. Outdoor workers also face significant danger. While the state is already experiencing high temperatures with localised heatwaves emerging, the harsh conditions are forecast to persist through May and June.
The Telangana government's recently released Heatwave Action Plan - 2025 identifies Adilabad, Nirmal, Jagtial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Warangal, Mulugu, Khammam, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, and Nalgonda as the districts most likely to be affected by severe heatwaves.
