Subhani to Receive Bapu Award Today at Grand Show

Hyderabad: Deccan Chronicle’s award-winning cartoonist Subhani has been selected for Bapu Puraskaram, named after the eminent cartoonist, filmmaker and writer. The award will be presented on Monday.

At the 11th awards ceremony here on Monday, the Ramana Puraskaram will be conferred upon Jonnavithula Ramalingeswara Rao, an eminent Telugu cinema lyricist and poet. The lifetime achievement award will be presented to Maganti Murali Mohan, veteran film actor and former Member of Parliament.

The Bapu-Ramana Academy (Atreyapuram, Hyderabad), a Telugu cultural organisation, was established ten years ago by eminent artist and poet Bnim (Bhamidipally Narasimha Murthy) and Vegiraju Subbaraju.

Since its inception, the Academy has been presenting the Bapu-Ramana Puraskaram, an award instituted to honour the legacy of two cultural icons, the legendary director, illustrator and cartoonist Bapu, and renowned writer Mullapudi Ramana.

Every year, on December 15, the birthday of Bapu, the academy presents the award to an eminent artist and a writer or poet who have excelled in their respective fields.

Over the years, the award has been conferred upon noted artists and cartoonists such as Jayadev, Chandra, Gopi, and B.V. Satyamurthy, and distinguished literary and film personalities including Kalatapasvi K. Viswanath, Tanikella Bharani, and Sri Ramana Pasalapudi Vamsi.
