Nalgonda: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday said that defeating the BRS decisively at the grassroots level was the true tribute to the late N.T. Rama Rao (NTR), whose death anniversary falls on January 10.

Addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation stone for development works at Maddupally in Edulapuram mandal of Khammam district, the Chief Minister recalled that NTR had restored self-respect to Telugu people at the national level. He alleged that BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao had harboured a grudge against the Telugu Desam and worked to eliminate it from Telangana. He said uprooting the BRS from villages and removing its flagpoles would be the real homage to NTR by his admirers.
Recalling the political timeline of the state, he said the TD ruled from 1994 to 2004, the Congress from 2004 to 2014, and the BRS from 2014 to 2023. Continuing this pattern, he said the Congress would remain in power until 2034.
The Chief Minister said the government was working towards making Telangana a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047, contributing 10 per cent to the national economy.
Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for the ₹162.54-crore Munneru–Palair Link Canal, inaugurated the ₹25-crore Government Nursing College building, and opened the ₹19.9-crore agricultu
The Chief Minister said that NTR and Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy were leaders remembered for their commitment to the welfare of the poor. He recalled that NTR’s government had introduced ₹2-per-kg rice to ensure food security for the poor, and said the Congress government had drawn inspiration from that initiative by supplying fine rice to ration cardholders. He said 6 kg of fine rice was being supplied free of cost every month to 3.15 crore beneficiaries and directed officials to ensure coverage of all eligible families.
Referring to Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, the Chief Minister said his first decision after assuming office in 2004 was to provide free power to agriculture and waive ₹13,000 crore in electricity dues of farmers. He also recalled that the YSR government had withdrawn criminal cases filed against farmers who had protested against power tariff hikes and sanctioned 25 lakh Indiramma houses for the poor.
He alleged that the BRS government diluted the housing programme for a decade in the name of double-bedroom houses and questioned how many beneficiaries actually received houses during its tenure. After coming to power, the Congress government sanctioned 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses in the first phase and committed to providing houses to all eligible families over the next three years, he said.
Explaining the welfare agenda of his government, Revanth Reddy said the schemes were aimed at improving the living standards of the poor and enabling them to live with dignity.
He said voters had already taught a lesson to the BRS in the 2023 Assembly elections, the Lok Sabha elections, and the bypolls to Cantonment and Jubilee Hills Assembly constituencies. He added that the BRS also lost ground in the gram panchayat elections, with Congress-supported candidates winning 66 per cent of sarpanch and ward member posts in Khammam district. He urged party workers to aim for victory in at least 70 per cent of municipalities in the upcoming urban local body elections.
