HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Waqf Tribunal has extended the last date for registering Waqf properties on the Umeed portal by three months, according to Waqf Board member Akbar Nizamuddin.
The tribunal had passed the order earlier in the week, extending the time for uploading data from the date of the order, which it had said was July 3. The tribunal had ruled that the Waqf Amendment Act was effective from July 3, the date the Centre released the gazette. It indicated that the six-month period set by the Centre would lapse on January 3 next.
The tribunal had directed the Centre to open the Umeed portal with immediate effect to allow the upload of data of the remaining Waqf institutions and properties.
Telangana Waqf Board is the mutawalli (caretaker) of thousands of properties and had therefore approached the tribunal, said Waqf Board member Abul Fateh Sayed Bandagi Badsha Quadri.
He added, “If any mutawalli is facing a problem at the ‘checker’ and ‘approval’ level, they should meet board chief executive officer Md. Asadullah and not go to middlemen. Quadri urged the Waqf-by-user custodians to make use of the opportunity and upload the data without further loss of time.
