Hyderabad: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Monday said the Congress government has initiated several reforms in the revenue and stamps, and registration departments to eradicate corruption and provide better services to people.

He stressed that the government no longer viewed the registration department merely as a revenue-generating wing, but as a vital service centre meant to provide hassle-free and dignified services to citizens.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of an integrated sub-registrar office at Kukatpally, the minister said the reforms were being implemented in line with the vision of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to make the registration process transparent, efficient and accountable.

He reiterated that the government was determined to protect land assigned to the poor as well as government land, and warned that illegal occupations and land encroachments would be dealt with firmly.

Srinivas Reddy assured that even in cases where assigned land parcels were required for public purposes, the affected landowners would be given appropriate compensation and alternative land.

He said that modern integrated offices would be constructed across the state in phases, with advanced infrastructure and corporate-level standards for the public and smooth functioning of the administration.

In the first phase, buildings would be constructed within the Outer Ring Road limits, followed by district headquarters in the second phase and Assembly constituency headquarters in the third.

Within the ORR region, 39 sub-registrar offices in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts were being reorganised into 12 clusters. The Telangana Academy of Land Information and Management (TALIM) in Gachibowli is expected to be operational by June.

The buildings were being constructed through private developers without burden on the government exchequer. The developers would be responsible for maintaining the buildings for five years. The new facilities would provide a comfortable environment and offer all essential amenities under one roof.

He said that extensive development works had been undertaken for the upcoming Medaram Jatara, appealing to people to participate in the festival.

Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender, Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Legislative Council Chief Whip Patnam Mahender Reddy, MLC Naveen Rao, GHMC Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, Stamps and Registration IG Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu were present in the meeting.
