Southern States Must Unite Against Cybercrime: Telangana DGP
It was decided to create a regional coordination cell among the southern states to improve collaboration among the cyber wings of each state
Hyderabad: The Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Jitender on Wednesday felt that there was a need to unite southern states' police officials to combat cyber crime offences being taken place as these cases are posing a major challenge for police and public.
The Telangana police on Wednesday organised the regional quarterly meeting of the Southern States DGP's Coordination Conference which comprises the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry. The meeting aimed to enhance coordination among the member states in the field of cybercrime and cybersecurity so as to contribute to a safer digital future.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said that a united front across southern states was required to combat cybercrime. “Our collective expertise shall be leveraged to strengthen cybersecurity frameworks and protect our citizens from emerging threats. A safer digital ecosystem for our region can be created through our combined efforts.” Jitender said.
The Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) director Shikha Goel stated that to disrupt cybercrime ecosystems, they need to leverage new technologies like Artificial Intelligence and share actionable intelligence amongst police officers to collectively stay ahead of emerging threats.
The TGCSB director further stated that the meeting focused on strengthening measures to combat cybercrime such as inter-state coordination, international cooperation, coordination with banking and telecom sectors, cyber training and raising public awareness to enhance cyber resilience.
“Gaps in legal frameworks and procedural delays were discussed to deliver timely justice and support to the cyber victims. The member states not only came forward with initiatives which may be adopted by others but also deliberated on the areas of concern which may be taken at a national level to develop a better response to the increasing cybercrime. The increasing concern of misuse of cryptocurrency to facilitate cybercrime was also discussed & new investigation methodologies were highlighted to apprehend the miscreants involved in such crimes,” Shikha Goel said.
