Nalgonda: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Sunday announced that the state government is planning to install rooftop solar energy panels on Telangana State Warehouse Corporation buildings as part of its efforts to promote renewable energy and reduce maintenance costs.

The minister, along with Khammam MP Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, laid the foundation stone for a new warehouse corporation godown at Jinkalathanda in Khammam district. The facility is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore.

Speaking at the event, Tummala said the state government aims to support self-help groups (SHGs) in establishing rice mills and storage godowns in every mandal. The initiative would enable farmers to safely store their produce and sell it when market prices are more favourable.

He noted that there is a growing demand for storage facilities at the mandal level and emphasised the government's focus on bridging the gap between storage requirements and existing infrastructure. He directed officials to submit proposals for new godowns based on local needs.

The minister also highlighted the rising demand for cold storage facilities and reiterated that the government is working on a plan to equip godowns with rooftop solar panels to make operations more energy-efficient and cost-effective.

Telangana State Warehouse Corporation chairman Rayala Nageshwar Rao, Khammam market committee chairman Hanumantha Rao, and other officials were present at the ceremony.
