HYDERABAD: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has agreed in principle to reinstate 43 junior mining engineer trainees (JMETs) who were previously terminated on grounds such as unauthorised absence and failure to furnish mandatory certificates. The decision was finalised on July 24 during a tripartite meeting held at the office of the deputy chief labour commissioner (central) in Vidyanagar, Hyderabad.

The Singareni Collieries Workers Union had been pursuing the matter on humanitarian grounds since November 2024, initially raising it during discussions with the director (personnel, administration and welfare), and again in March 2025 before the SCCL chairman. The issue was deliberated further during the 51st constructive dialogue meeting on June 27 and eventually resolved with the involvement of senior management and labour authorities.

Key attendees included deputy chief labour commissioner D. Srinivasulu, SCCL director (PA&W) Gautham Potru, general managers A. Manohar and Kavitha Naidu, and union leaders led by president Vasireddy Seetharamayya and general secretary K. Raj Kumar.

As per the agreement, the reinstated JMETs will be treated as fresh recruits and must appear before a high-power committee constituted by SCCL. They are required to submit all relevant documents. Upon verification and successful completion of medical fitness tests, provisional appointment orders will be issued. They must also complete a minimum of 190 muster days within the first year of re-employment to meet the company’s service requirements.
