Singareni, Genco Plan Uninterrupted Coal Supply

NALGONDA: The Singareni Collieries and Telangana Generation Corporation (Genco) have drawn up an action plan to ensure uninterrupted coal supply to thermal power plants in line with the state’s growing electricity needs amid deficient rainfall and increased temperatures amid the El Nino impact.
A special coordination meeting was held through video conference from Singareni Bhavan at Kothagudem on Tuesday evening. The meeting, chaired by chairmen and managing directors D. Buddhaprakash Jyoti (Singareni Company Collieries Limited, SCCL) and Harish (Genco), discussed a daily coal supply target of 75,500 tonnes.
The plan envisaged 56,000 tonnes a day through 14 railway rakes and 19,500 tonnes by road. Plant‑wise requirements reviewed included 24,000 tonnes for Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS), 4,500 tonnes for Kakatiya Thermal Power Station, 15,000 tonnes for Bhadradri Thermal Power Station and 34,000 tonnes for Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS). For YTPS, an action plan was drawn up to transport 8,000 tonnes a day through two rakes from the Naini coal block in Odisha and 36,000 tonnes through six rakes from Singareni’s local mines.
Officials said steps were being taken to increase supplies from Naini. Up to September 28, 15.02 lakh tonnes of coal had been supplied to TGGenco plants by road and rail, compared with 11.44 lakh tonnes during the same period last year — an increase of 3.58 lakh tonnes, or 31 per cent.
Genco officials informed the meeting that electricity demand had risen due to dry conditions associated with El Nino and that additional coal was needed to support higher generation. The meeting called on Area General Managers and plant Chief Engineers to resolve issues relating to supply, transportation and receipt through close coordination, daily information exchange, and faster loading and unloading.
SCCL directors L.V. Suryanarayana (operations) and K. Venkateswarlu (projects and planning), general manager (coordination and marketing) T. Srinivas, Genco and Singareni senior engineers attended the meeting.
