Hyderabad: Union home minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Telangana on Sunday has been cancelled due to an undisclosed engagement in New Delhi.

As per the earlier schedule, Shah was to visit Karimnagar to attend a private programme as chief guest and later hold brief meetings with BJP leaders in Hyderabad, including the newly appointed party in-charges for Telangana.

Police and other security agencies had already held coordination meetings and finalised arrangements for his proposed visit to Brahmanapalli in Toopran mandal, where he was scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a cooperative dairy plant. The preparations were put on hold following the cancellation of the visit.

Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar said the visit had been cancelled due to “unavoidable reasons”.

A senior BJP leader said Shah was required to remain in Delhi for an important meeting. Local party leaders and workers had begun preparations for the visit, during which organisational matters were also expected to be discussed.

This is not the first time Shah’s proposed visit to Telangana has been postponed because of engagements in New Delhi. No fresh date has been announced for the visit. Party sources said it could be rescheduled later.
