Shadnagar Police Foil Bid to Sell 2-Month-Old Baby for Rs 2 Lakh
Police said the woman had allegedly planned to sell the baby through a mediator to a childless couple for between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, police sources claimed.
Hyderabad:Shadnagar police on Tuesday foiled an alleged attempt by a tribal woman to sell her two-month-old daughter in Lal Singh thanda of Upparigadda gram panchayat in Rangareddy district. Upon hearing that the transaction was on the verge of taking place, police intervened and rescued the infant who was handed over to Shishu Vihar.
Police said the woman had allegedly planned to sell the baby through a mediator to a childless couple for between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, police sources claimed. Police took into custody, one Renuka, the alleged mediator, and the couple that reportedly intended to purchase the baby.
“We have booked a case under Sections 143 and 144 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deal with human trafficking,” Shadnagar station house officer P. Vijay Kumar said.
Sources said special teams, including from the anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU), had been deployed to trace and dismantle a suspected human trafficking network.
