Hyderabad: Hyderabad recorded its coldest morning of the season on Tuesday with Ibrahimpatnam registering at 7.6°C, and forecasters warned that the coldwave would intensify into a severe spell between December 10 and 13.
According to the IMD, night and morning temperatures are expected to fall further over the next days, with the mercury set to fall to single digits in several pockets. The bulletin placed the state under continued coldwave conditions and advised residents to follow safety guidance during early morning travel.
Across Hyderabad, multiple neighbourhoods slipped well below normal. HCU Serlingampally reported 8°C, Rajendranagar 8.5°C, BHEL 9.4°C, Gachibowli 10.8°C and Mehdipatnam 14°C. Weather trackers noted that suburbs and university zones showed the sharpest fall.
Statewide readings showed an equally steep drop. Telangana’s lowest temperature on Tuesday was 6.1°C in Kumuram Bheem district, followed closely by 6.3°C in Adilabad and 6.4°C in Sangareddy. Vikarabad, Kamareddy, Medak, Siddipet, Nirmal and Nizamabad all remained in the 7 to 8°C range. District officials said large parts of northern Telangana experienced a more pronounced chill as cold winds strengthened overnight.
The IMD and local health officials have asked residents to avoid unnecessary night travel, use layered clothing, keep infants and elderly people warm and monitor weather updates before early morning commutes. Doctors advised warm fluids, limited exposure during the peak chill hours and extra precautions for people with respiratory issues.
