Hyderabad:Three months before the Union home ministry’s March 31 deadline for erasing Maoist footprint in the country, 30 Maoists, who were underground for years working for the outlawed organisation, have reportedly disappeared from the forests.

“There is no evidence to suggest that these individuals continued in the party and subsequently died,” sources said.

According to an assessment, they might have distanced themselves from the Maoist ideology during their hiding and may have been living ordinary lives with changed identities.

After the death of top Maoist leader Madvi Hidma in an alleged encounter in Andhra Pradesh, the senior Maoist leaders have asked cadres to leave forest bases and lead a normal life without surrendering to the police.

"There is no activity. It is a strategy to stay mum during hard times. The Maoist leaders asked their cadres to lead a normal life without surrendering to the police. However, security agencies have kept a close vigil on selected areas," sources said.
