Search On for Man Missing in Jampanna Vagu; SP Reviews Rescue Operations
In view of the continuing heavy rains, police advised the public to stay away from rivers and streams and cautioned against entering water bodies, particularly after consuming alcohol, warning that such acts could prove fatal.
Mulugu: Search operations continued on Friday for a 45-year-old man who went missing in the swollen Jampanna Vagu in Mulugu district, with police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) intensifying rescue efforts.
The missing person, Peetla Thimmaiah, a car driver from Kondapur village in Ghatkesar mandal, reportedly went missing on Wednesday after being swept away by strong currents while swimming with friends between the Jampanna Vagu main bridge and Oorattam bridge. Police said he had entered the stream under the influence of alcohol. His whereabouts remained unknown.
Superintendent of police Kekan Sudheer Ramnath visited the spot on Friday and reviewed the rescue operations. He was accompanied by DSP Naluvala Ravinder and Pasra circle inspector Dayakar.
Two reserve inspectors, 25 trained DDRF personnel and SDRF teams are carrying out a coordinated search across a nearly 9-km stretch of the stream. Rescue teams are combing the watercourse and sandbanks, suspecting the body may have become trapped beneath sand deposits due to the strong current.
