Adilabad: Coal production came to a halt in the opencast mines of Srirampur, Mandamarri, Goleti, and Bellampalli areas in Mancherial district on Saturday due to incessant rains and subsequent waterlogging. Rainwater entered the opencast mines following overnight showers.

Coal production was severely affected as excavation machines and transport vehicles remained idle in the flooded mines.

Singareni management has been trying to ramp up production to meet its targets, but the heavy rains over the past 15 days have proved to be a major setback. However, coal mining operations continued as usual in the underground mines of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). Heavy rains lashed the entire coal belt region covering the Bellampalli and Mancherial Assembly constituencies.

Meanwhile, a portion of the slab of a Singareni quarter collapsed in Bellampalli, where former MLA Durgam Chainnaiah and his family reside near the AMC area. Fortunately, no one was inside the quarter when the incident occurred.
