‘Sarathi’ Portal Glitch Stalls RTO Services in Telangana

Hyderabad: A technical glitch in the ‘Sarathi’ portal disrupted services at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across Telangana on Monday, affecting around 4,000 applications, officials said. The portal, developed and managed by the National Informatics Centre, handles services related to learner’s licences, driving licences, renewals and other transactions.
Transport department sources said the disruption, reported from morning hours, was part of a nationwide issue and services were restored in the afternoon. They added that nearly 4,000 applications are processed daily in the state.
A. Sathi Reddy of the Auto Drivers’ Union Joint Action Committee said applicants were inconvenienced due to repeated outages.
“The server was down last Tuesday and again from this morning, forcing applicants to waste the entire day and disrupting work.”
He added, “RTO offices are crowded with applicants whenever the portal resumes service. At a time when technology has advanced so much, such glitches raise serious questions.”
The ‘Sarathi’ portal is a centralised platform used for applying for learner’s licences, booking driving test slots, issuing permanent licences, renewals, address updates, duplicate licences and international driving permits, besides monitoring driving schools and instructors. Officials said services were halted for several hours before resuming later in the day, impacting applicants across RTO offices in the State.
