Deccan Wanderers produced the day’s most complete batting effort, racing to 246/3 in just 37 overs through Nitish Reddy’s fluent century.

Among the bowlers, M. Dheeraj Rao (6/29) and Rishab Baslas (6/59) delivered the standout spells, while Ashwad Rajiv (5/52), Mickil Jaiswal (5/43) and Tanay Thyagarajann (5/14) also turned matches in their teams’ favour.

CISF, CRPF lead taekwondo table

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and hosts Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) lead the women’s and men’s medals tally in the Taekwondo discipline at the 11th All-India Police Judo Cluster Championship being organised by CISF under the aegis of the All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB) at the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

CRPF women bagged four gold and two silver medals to lead the table, followed by Assam Rifles with two golds, three silvers and two bronzes. CISF got two golds and a bronze.

On the men’s side, CISF leads the medal tally with three golds, two silvers and two bronzes. Border Security Force (BSF) are second with three golds, one silver and three bronze medals. Arunachal Pradesh Police has three golds to their credit.

The Taekwondo competition was conducted in two formats — Kyorugi (sparring) — contested across seven weight categories each for men and women — and Poomsae (forms), comprising individual and team events for both categories on the fifth day of the championship.

Anil Damor, DIG/Trg, NISA, who was the Chief Guest, presented medals to the winners.

Shuttler Nachiketh nails another trophy

Shuttler Sai Nachiketh Bhatraju won back to back titles by winning the Turkish Junior International coming from last week’s All England Open Junior title. In the final, the third seed defeated top seed M. Toremis of Turkey with a 21-11, 23-21 scoreline. Earlier in the semifinal, Nachiketh beat Amer Mohammed of Saudi Arabia 21-13, 21-19. Before that, he had got past A. Ahmadloo of Iran 21-18, 21-23, 21-9 in the quarterfinal.

Nachiketh trains at Chetan Anand Badminton Academy (CABA), Hyderabad, under the guidance of former World No. 10 and Arjuna Awardee Chetan Anand. “It’s not easy to win back to back international tournaments. I am very happy he maintained his concentration, composure and also managed the mental as well as physical stress over the last two weeks. I am proud of him for winning back-toback titles... this is just the beginning,” Chetan stated.

Golconda Gladiators pull off a thrilling win in basketball

Hyderabad: Golconda Gladiators held their nerves in time to record a 62-58 over Secunderabad Stallions in the Sub-Junior & Youth League for boys & girls being conducted by The Hyderabad District Basketball Association at YMCA Secunderabad. The Gladiators led 23-7 at end of the first quarter, enjoyed a healthy 33-19 lead at half-time before allowing the Stallions to tie the scores at 43 at the end of the third quarter. Then they edged out their opponents in the dying minutes of the final quarter.
