Sajjanar Pays Homage to Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy
Sajjanar added that the Police Academy was named the Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy Police Academy in honour and remembrance of his services.
Hyderabad:City police commissioner V. C. Sajjanar on Saturday presented the Raja Bahadur Venkatrama Reddy Memorial Gold Medal to Special Branch inspector Harish and the K.V. Ranga Reddy Memorial Gold Medal to Cyberabad inspector Ravi for outstanding merit. He was participating at an event to commemorate the 157th birth anniversary of Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy. at the RBVRR Educational Society, Abids, on Saturday.
Sajjanar lauded Venkatrama Reddy’s rise from a farmer’s family to the Kotwal of Hyderabad and described his contributions as unforgettable. Sajjanar recalled Reddy’s 14‑year tenure as Kotwal, after joining the force at the age of 18 as an ‘amin’ and his welfare initiatives. For his work, the Nizam government honored him with the title of 'Raja Bahadur', while the British government conferred upon him the 'Order of the British Empire' (OBE) award. Sajjanar added that the Police Academy was named the Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy Police Academy in honour and remembrance of his services.
Venkatarama Reddy also established hostels where leaders including former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, former chief minister Marri Chenna Reddy, Telangana armed struggle freedom fighter Ravi Narayana Reddy, former Governor B. Satyanarayana Reddy, former UGC Chairman Prof. G. Ram Reddy, along with numerous judges, IAS and IPS officers, doctors, and engineers had stayed.
Sajjanar praised Venkatarama Reddy’s vision in promoting girl child education by establishing a women’s hostel in 1933, followed by a girls’ school and a women’s college in Narayanguda. He urged students to avoid excessive social media use, stressing passion, dedication and hard work as keys to success.
