RSS-Backed School Conducts “Mathru Hastha Bhojanam” To Revive Family Bond And Curb Commercial Food Culture

HYDERABAD: With children generally moving away from home-cooked meals toward fast food and junk food, RSS-supported Sri Vidyaranya International School at Bandlaguda Jagir, part of the Saraswathi Shishu Mandir chain, organised a unique initiative, “Mathru Hastha Bhojanam” (mother’s hand-fed meal). The programme was designed to revive traditional family bonds and reacquaint children with the warmth of mother’s affection, which are increasingly fading in modern times.
The school management maintained that the primary objective of the event was to curb commercial food-culture, which poses severe health risks. The special lunch programme was organized to nurture healthy eating habits and reinforce deep-rooted family values among the students.
Mothers participated enthusiastically, preparing their children’s favourite traditional dishes at home. Sitting with their children on the floor in a traditional arrangement, the mothers shared stories while feeding them with their own hands. The school premises resembled a large, close-knit joint family, and several mothers grew visibly emotional as they remembered their own childhood.
Participating mothers expressed gratitude to the school management for providing a peaceful opportunity to dine with their children amid busy schedules.
School secretary N.V.K. Visweswara Rao said observing such traditions instils Indian cultural heritage and core values in children and added that the school will continue to organise similar meaningful initiatives. Principal in-charge Ramadevi revealed that hundreds of mothers responded overwhelmingly to the school’s call and turned up for the event.
