Rs.38.5 Lakh Worth Ganja Plants Seized in Adilabad, 2 Cases Booked

Hyderabad: The Adilabad police seized 385 ganja plants worth around Rs.38.5 lakh from agricultural fields on the outskirts of Potam Loddi village, District Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said.
Acting on credible information about illegal ganja cultivation, police conducted raids in the village and seized the plants in two separate incidents.
In the first case, the police found 315 ganja plants in the agricultural field of Mesram Gangaram Patel, estimated to be worth Rs.31.5 lakh. An agriculture extension officer examined the plants and confirmed that they were ganja.
In another field, the police found 70 ganja plants allegedly being cultivated by Mesram Nagu, with an estimated value of Rs.7 lakh.

Akhil Mahajan said the district police were intensifying efforts to eradicate ganja cultivation and warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in its cultivation, transportation, sale and consumption.
He said parents could approach the police if their children were addicted to ganja, and the police would facilitate treatment at de-addiction centres. He urged people to share information about ganja cultivation or trafficking through WhatsApp at 8712659973.
He assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential and said cash rewards would be given to those providing useful information.
Akhil Mahajan also said the police had so far recommended denial of government welfare schemes to persons involved in ganja cultivation on around 250 acres of agricultural land across the district.
