HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will participate in the state-wide 10-day Arrive Alive’ road safety campaign being launched by the police on Monday.

Director general of police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy said the initiative aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities through active public participation, instilling a strong sense of road safety, promoting behavioural change, and institutionalising defensive driving culture across Telangana.

The campaign will run till January 24, excluding festival holidays, with all police personnel instructed to ensure its success.

According to the DGP, the programme aspires to make Telangana a model state for road safety with the involvement of students, youth, celebrities, voluntary organisations, corporates, the media, public representatives, government departments, and the judiciary.

The campaign will target dangerous practices such as riding without helmets (including pillion riders), non-use of seat belts, mobile phone use while driving, drunk driving, wrong-side driving, signal jumping, crossing stop lines, overloading of autos, meter and uniform violations, use of high-beam lights, and unsafe overtaking.

Implementation will be led by police commissioners and district superintendents of police, supported by grassroots officers, SDPOs, circle inspectors, mandal-level officials, and village traffic safety committees chaired by sarpanches. Teachers, Anganwadi workers, NCC representatives, auto drivers, and tractor owners will also be engaged in the campaign.

Themes include defensive driving, student and youth safety, rural road safety, women and family safety, and zero tolerance towards drunk driving. Special programmes will be organised with voluntary organisations, while awareness activities will be conducted through gram sabhas, schools, bus stands, cab services, kite festivals, rangoli events, road shows, and drives at accident-prone black spots, malls, markets, government offices, hospitals, factories, and religious institutions.

Police commissioners and SPs have been directed to implement the campaign uniformly across the state. The DGP appealed to the public to cooperate with police in curbing accidents and making Telangana a national example in road safety.
