Adilabad:Due to heavy rains, road connectivity was severely impacted in the erstwhile Adilabad district, with culverts and roads breached in multiple locations. While irrigation projects saw significant inflows, the district itself did not receive much rain on Thursday. The damage to roads, bridges, and culverts was particularly high in the Komaram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial districts.

Officials predict that inflows will increase in the Pranahita and Penganga rivers on Friday, as floodwater is expected to be released downstream from projects in neighbouring Maharashtra. To manage the rising water levels, irrigation officials have already released water by lifting three gates of the Komaram Bheem Asifabad project and two gates of the Kadam project.

Nirmal collector Abhilasha Abhinav and SP Janaki Sharmila inspected the Kadam project, inquiring about its inflows and outflows. They instructed officials to alert villagers and village secretaries located along the riverbanks and downstream well in advance of any water release. In response to the weather alert and heavy rains, officials from the Panchayat Raj, revenue, police, and irrigation departments were directed to remain on high alert.

Meanwhile, in the villages of the Bejjur mandal in the Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, extensive areas of standing crops have been submerged by floodwaters and the backwaters of the Pranahitha River. Additionally, reports have emerged from the Bellampalli Assembly constituency of pregnant women struggling to reach hospitals for delivery or medical checkups due to villages being surrounded by floodwater and disrupted road connectivity.
