Revanth Wants Kite Festivals at Restored Lakes
Revanth Reddy said themed kite festivals could be organised at different lakes, involving various sections of society.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday asked HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath to organise kite festivals at restored lakes in the city during Sankranti.
Ranganath on Thursday met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at his Jubilee Hills residence and briefed him on the ongoing restoration of lakes across Hyderabad by HYDRAA.
The commissioner outlined the progress made in reviving encroached and polluted water bodies, improving lake bunds, walkways and surrounding green spaces to enhance urban ecology and public use.
The Chief Minister suggested organising kite festivals at restored lakes in the city as part of Sankranti celebrations to promote public participation and showcase the rejuvenated water bodies. He directed the HYDRAA commissioner to plan the events in coordination with the tourism department and ensure they are conducted in a grand and festive manner.
Revanth Reddy said themed kite festivals could be organised at different lakes, involving various sections of society. He suggested inviting IT professionals and employees from the Hitec City area to participate in the festival at Tummidikunta lake, highlighting the role of the corporate sector in supporting urban environmental initiatives.
At Nallacheruvu in Kukatpally, the Chief Minister recommended involving film personalities to attract wider public attention, while at Burukuddhin lake in Rajendranagar, sportspersons should be invited to take part in the celebrations.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to schedule the kite festivals over three days, on January 11, 12 and 13, coinciding with the Sankranti festival period. He said that the events should be safe, well-organised and environmentally friendly, ensuring no harm to the lakes or surrounding areas.
The initiative, he said, would not only revive traditional festivities like kite flying but also create awareness about lake conservation and encourage citizens to take pride in Hyderabad’s restored water bodies.
