Revanth To Unveil Plan To Produce Olympic Champions From Telangana
The conclave will see the presence of renowned sportspersons such as Olympic medallists Gagan Narang, Abhinav Bindra and badminton icon Pullela Gopichand: Reports
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will unveil the state’s sports policy at the inaugural Telangana Sports Conclave on Saturday to lay the groundwork for producing the next generation of Olympic champions. The Cabinet had approved the policy on June 23.
The conclave will see the presence of renowned sportspersons such as Olympic medallists Gagan Narang, Abhinav Bindra and badminton icon Pullela Gopichand.
As part of the reforms in the sporting sector, the government is set to sign key MoUs with major international bodies including FIFA and the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP). These partnerships are expected to bring global expertise to Telangana’s grassroots and elite-level sporting infrastructure.
Building on the momentum from the Chief Minister’s visit to South Korea last year, the government has announced the establishment of the Young India Physical Education and Sports University (YIPESU) in Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Korean National Sports University in Seoul. This institution will serve as a key technical and academic centre for sports development in the state.
The sports policy focuses on five pillars — governance and organisation, sports ecosystem, long-term athlete development, infrastructure and skills development and career pathways. It aims to offer international coaching, structured training programmes, sports insurance and medical assistance to athletes across disciplines.
The government will set up a Sports Hub of Telangana to provide strategic leadership and policy direction, under the oversight of a board of governors that will include at least four eminent sportspersons. The Sports Hub will also manage the Telangana Sports Development Fund (TSDF), created to financially support various programmes under the policy.
Major infrastructure initiatives include the creation of the Young India Sports Academy, Sports Science Centres, Centres of Excellence, sports schools and village-level facilities. In addition, mini-stadiums will be developed in each of the state’s 119 Assembly constituencies.
Specialised residential school sport academies will also be established within existing institutions under the social, tribal, backward classes and minorities welfare residential educational societies, ensuring that sporting talent is nurtured inclusively and equitably across all communities.
