Revanth to Lead Rally to Protest Attack
Official sources said the Chief Minister also instructed state police and intelligence departments to identify Pakistan nationals currently residing in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will lead a candlelight rally on Friday from People’s Plaza to the Indira Gandhi statue at Necklace Road in the city to protest the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
The rally is being organised in response to a nationwide call issued by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to hold protests across the country. Ministers, Congress MLAS, MLCS, MPS and a large number of people are expected to take part in the rally.
Initially scheduled for Thursday at 5 pm, the rally was rescheduled to Friday after AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal announced that Congress would hold candle marches across the country on April 25. The decision came during an emergency meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s highest decision-making body, held in Delhi on Thursday to discuss the Pahalgam incident.
Revanth Reddy, who returned to Hyderabad on Wednesday night following a week-long official tour to Japan, convened a high-level meeting at the Police Integrated Command Control Centre on Thursday morning. The meeting focused on the terror attack, the prevailing situation in Pahalgam, and the safety of tourists in the region.
Official sources said the Chief Minister also instructed state police and intelligence departments to identify Pakistan nationals currently residing in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana. In line with the Centre’s directives, those found living either legally or illegally are to be deported within 48 hours.
DGP Dr Jitender, Intelligence Chief B. Shivadhar Reddy, and Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari attended the meeting. Several senior political leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, C. Damodar Rajanarasimha, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Seethakka, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Jupally Krishna Rao, AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, and TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, were also present.
The Chief Minister and ministers strongly condemned the terror attack and observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims. The Friday rally is expected to witness participation from party workers and the general public in large numbers.
